The most important fight of a lifetime is upon us. No, it isn't the battle to confirm John Bolton. And no, it isn't the Rove CIA-leak. The confirmation of John Roberts to the Supreme Court is the most import battle of this year. Why you may ask? The Supreme Court is the third branch of our government. It is known as the silent branch. You hardly hear much from the Court. But when it speaks it can be heard a thousand miles away. It has the power to take the work of the other two branches and make it obsolete or 'unconstitutional'. The High Court can take a law that most Americans agree with and change it forever. It was this court for example that made the act of abortion a legal practice. Unfortunately most Americans know very little about the Supreme Court of our land. In fact, most Americans can not name a justice on the High Court. Can you name one? If you can name one then you are one of the few citizens that can.In the humble opinion of this writer, John Roberts was the perfect choice for the Supreme Court. This man will have an easy confirmation. (Easy does not mean he won't get grilled by the Dems or press. Easy means he will get the votes necessary without a big filibuster or some other delaying tactic.) With his steller resume he will have no problem facing the likes of Schumer or Reid. Roberts has already gone through this once before in the '90s. In fact, he has already had a showdown with the Dems. How did he do? He showed great poise and restraint. There is no doubt that the Dems will try their best to get a 'gotcha' quote but they will leave frustrated because Mr. Roberts will not bite. Bush once again showed the country that he is a very good leader and a very good politician. On news reports on both CNN and Fox, Republicans AND Democrats had nothing but good things to say about Roberts. Conservatives are even feeling good about Roberts. There are a few who are worried that Roberts doesn't have much of a paper trail. They worry that he may not be as conservative as they are hoping for. Time will tell.Roberts just feels right. He fits well with Bush. Bush can never be labelled as an ultra conservative. (Personally I don't believe an ultra-anything can make it to the White House.) Likewise, Roberts does not appear to be an ultra-conservative. Why would Bush pick someone that didn't at least appear to be like-minded? Which it is so funny to listen to the Dems. They really believed Bush should pick someone who is different in politics and philosophy than himself. Why would any President do that? That is cutting off your nose to spite your face. And some Dems are even shocked that John Roberts supported Bush and his election. NO WAY! Do they believe a President should pick a person that contributes to the OTHER SIDE? That doesn't make any sense. Well, then again nothing from D.C. makes much sense.

So who hasn't heard about the latest summer craze? The media has the whole country asking this question, "Who the heck is Karl Rove?" I was watching the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he even asks that question to Wolf Blitzer of CNN. So who is this Karl Rove character? Ask anyone who knows anything about politics and you will get two very different opinions and descriptions. Ask a Democrat and the answer you will get is, "He is a crook!", "He should be in jail!", "He should be fired!". Ask a Republican and the answer will be far different, "He is a political target.", "The Dems just hate him cause he beats them every election." My answer is this: Rove is the brains behind the Bush political machine. He is also the brains behind much of the success of the Republican party. So now the Dems think they have found a way to rid the world of this menace know as Rove. And of course the media is very happy to help out with the Dems mission. But will it work? Does the public really care that Rove supposedly 'outed' a non-covert agent? In the end it will not work. The only way the Prez will fire Rove is if he did something deemed illegal. And even the media is openly admitting that Rove did not meet the standards required to break the law established in the '80s.
So what is the big deal? Why so much attention to this non-story? The media has chosen this as their way to get the Prez. With all the Deep Throat talk lately and all the Nixon reminders the media longs for the days when they could get the conservatives. And of course the Dems are very happy to chide in on this subject and help out the media as much as possible. They don't want to wait for the investigation to end. They want the Prez to fire Rove immediately. What happened to the Left? They are always the ones to say, "innocent until proven guilty." But I guess that only applies to Dems and Dem supporters. John Kerry says Rove has to go (with Hillary Clinton nodding her approval next to him). Harry Reid the minority leader in the Senate says the Prez needs to oust Rove as well. I guess I can sort of understand why they want him out. Rove has kicked their tails consistently over the past few years. So I guess if they can't beat him at the ballot box maybe they think they can do it in the media. Good luck with that! Here is an interesting sidebar: Where is all the outcry from the media when Sandy Berger stuffed his pants with sensitive documents? Can you hear the crickets chirping? By the way, if you don't know who Sandy Berger is then you probably should stop reading this blog and do some homework.
In the end, my web friends, this will be a story that dies a quiet and lonely death. Somebody will write a novel about it that will skip the Best Seller list and go directly to the discount table. Rove will stay in his position and help the Republicans win yet another election in 2006. The media will once again be left scratching their heads. And the Dems will go back to their prehistoric 'think-tanks' and try to find another way to beat the Republicans.
What about you and I? How will this have changed our lives? You and I will wake up once again in the greatest country in the world. We will go to our great jobs. We will gain a little too much weight from our fat-rich food. And when we wake up on Sunday we will still find our church that we can go and worship God at.
