So who hasn't heard about the latest summer craze? The media has the whole country asking this question, "Who the heck is Karl Rove?" I was watching the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he even asks that question to Wolf Blitzer of CNN. So who is this Karl Rove character? Ask anyone who knows anything about politics and you will get two very different opinions and descriptions. Ask a Democrat and the answer you will get is, "He is a crook!", "He should be in jail!", "He should be fired!". Ask a Republican and the answer will be far different, "He is a political target.", "The Dems just hate him cause he beats them every election." My answer is this: Rove is the brains behind the Bush political machine. He is also the brains behind much of the success of the Republican party. So now the Dems think they have found a way to rid the world of this menace know as Rove. And of course the media is very happy to help out with the Dems mission. But will it work? Does the public really care that Rove supposedly 'outed' a non-covert agent? In the end it will not work. The only way the Prez will fire Rove is if he did something deemed illegal. And even the media is openly admitting that Rove did not meet the standards required to break the law established in the '80s.
So what is the big deal? Why so much attention to this non-story? The media has chosen this as their way to get the Prez. With all the Deep Throat talk lately and all the Nixon reminders the media longs for the days when they could get the conservatives. And of course the Dems are very happy to chide in on this subject and help out the media as much as possible. They don't want to wait for the investigation to end. They want the Prez to fire Rove immediately. What happened to the Left? They are always the ones to say, "innocent until proven guilty." But I guess that only applies to Dems and Dem supporters. John Kerry says Rove has to go (with Hillary Clinton nodding her approval next to him). Harry Reid the minority leader in the Senate says the Prez needs to oust Rove as well. I guess I can sort of understand why they want him out. Rove has kicked their tails consistently over the past few years. So I guess if they can't beat him at the ballot box maybe they think they can do it in the media. Good luck with that! Here is an interesting sidebar: Where is all the outcry from the media when Sandy Berger stuffed his pants with sensitive documents? Can you hear the crickets chirping? By the way, if you don't know who Sandy Berger is then you probably should stop reading this blog and do some homework.
In the end, my web friends, this will be a story that dies a quiet and lonely death. Somebody will write a novel about it that will skip the Best Seller list and go directly to the discount table. Rove will stay in his position and help the Republicans win yet another election in 2006. The media will once again be left scratching their heads. And the Dems will go back to their prehistoric 'think-tanks' and try to find another way to beat the Republicans.
What about you and I? How will this have changed our lives? You and I will wake up once again in the greatest country in the world. We will go to our great jobs. We will gain a little too much weight from our fat-rich food. And when we wake up on Sunday we will still find our church that we can go and worship God at.
